TUESDAY
Celebrity Duets, 9 p.m., Fox. A range of stars including Chris Jericho, Lucy Lawless, Cheech Marin and Lea Thompson risk embarrassment not by dancing but by teaming with professional singers such as Smokey Robinson, Richard Marx and Canadian Idol tutor Cyndi Lauper to compete for a $100,000 charity donation. This is yet another production from the mind of American Idol judge Simon Cowell, who must have more debts than an honest man can pay.

OK, so did anyone see our girl last night? I didn't see her first number--thank the Gods!! (I loathe Michael Bolton).
I caught the number with Smokey! Wow! She sounded great and made that dress look like a million bucks! Even tho it appeared she was afraid to move too much in it. Didn't matter--it was still working for her.
Go Lucy!!

The second song was her best. She was more comfortable with Smokey than with Michael. (Which could be Michael's fault, and not Lucy's.)
Frankly, I'm not sure I like the duets. It's a disadvantage when you have to be the one to fit into the performers song, and not the performer to your song. (talking key here) The key should fit the one competing, and not the non-competitor. (Know what I mean?) The performer doesn't lose points for not sounding perfect.

BTW: The show's 2-hour premiere repeats on Thursday night. And Sharon will have a clip of the first song on Lucy's website after that. (Her VCR didn't catch the first song last night, so she's gotta tape it on Thursday again.)

I agree totally, Jox. I get the just of the show and I guess some of the actors need that pro up there to act as a crutch maybe, but I would just as soon have seen them do something without the pros....singing, dancing, whatever. It could've been a little more intertaining, perhaps even funny. After all, it is just for charity. I guess I'm biased, but I think Lucy has a beautiful voice, and I love it when she sings.

Or at least have the pros take the background instead of the spotlight. After all, they aren't the ones competing. We already _know_ they got the goods.

OK, you know I love me some Lucy Lawless...I gotta say this anyway....perhaps this is not the best venue for our warrior princess to "strutt her musical stuff". I love Kenny Loggins (anyone remember "House at Pooh Corner") and I like that song. I didn't care for Lucy singing it. Maybe she was trying too hard; I saw where she was stressing at rehersals. She doesn't seem comfortable...and she did miss some words...and she did crack on a couple of notes. I know she can sing. I think it may go right back to what you were saying, Jox'---she doesn't sing well with somebody else--especially a famous singer. I watched Jai and thought, "wow, he's great!! He's singing with Brian McKnight, and he's stealing the show!!" I just didn't get that with Lucy.

Yeah. I _know_ Lucy can sing, since she did fine on Xena. But she doesn't have the kind of voice that does well on just any song. Some singers can sing any song, any note, and with any singer (Glen Campbell comes to mind); but alas, Lucy is not one of them. Lucy needs to know her range, which songs fit perfectly in that range, and to avoid all other songs at all costs. When she sings a song made for her voice, she does great with it. She could win if she smartened up and chose more wisely.

Lucy is still in, and she's the top vote-getter.

Drat, don't seem to get any of those shows here, the movie Locusts was on a while back, watched about ten minutes and gave up, not even Lucy could entice me to watch that.
About the only thing I've seen her in since Xena finished was "Boogeyman" and if you blinked during that you would have missed her.

WARRIOR LUCY ROCKS Showbiz Liz & Beverley Lyons
XENA: Warrior Princess actress Lucy Lawless battled a mystery virus to make her singing debut at a rock gig.
Lucy, who is better known for her sword fights, decided to take a stab at singing after appearing on the US show Celebrity Duets. She had to load up on medication before the sell-out show at LA's Roxy venue but it didn't stop her bringing the house down.
With her new blonde look, she made a big impression singing some of her own songs, as well as those of Etta James and Nina Simone.

Have you seen the commercials for "Justice League" yet? A advertisement for the movie appeared on television yesterday, and though I wasn't watching the T.V. at the time, and I didn't hear exactly the phrase yelled in a rallying warcry-type tone, the sound of that voice is unmistakeable! Even without having known who was behind the voice of Wonder Woman, (I read it at Whoosh), I would have been able to recognize it.
When I told LX that the voice was Lucy's, she brought up kind of a neat thing; she said she'd love to see the "extras" following the movie when it's released on DVD. She said it'd be cool to watch Lucy stand in front of a microphone 'acting' out her lines as Wonder Woman. I think that'd be fun to watch also.
