Our day yesterday was nice - really nice, actually. It was goregous weather, (I've really been enjoying it here lately), and we messed around in Saugatuck just window shopping and such, until we met with friends who own a jewerly shop there and went for lunch. It was a bittersweet thing; good friends who will be going back to Texas for the winter after this weekend. Good to spend time together, but kinda sad knowing it'll be the last for a while.

We had a bit of a cause for celebration this weekend - though I'm not much of a baseball fan. The Tigers won the American League Championship and are on their way to the World Series! Last time that happened was twenty-two years ago - the week I got back from spending two years living in Germany.
Hubs and I caught the last ten minutes or so of the game on the radio Saturday. It brought back nostalgic memories of my Dad - always a big Tiger fan even when the Tigers deserved to have no fans, (which is most of the time). I bet he's smiling in his grave now.
On Saturdays, Dad listened to the games on the radio, relaxing in his hammock; it was the only time he used the hammock; the only time he drank a beer. My brother and I would pile on top of him, and ask for a sip of his Budweiser. He'd let us - probably just to quiet us down so he could hear the announcers. It tickled our noses and made us burp, which of course, led to burping contests between my brother and I, and we'd run off burping trying to burp in the other's ear. Kids are gross.
He'd often take us to the games too, at Tiger Stadium in Detroit. Hat day, and Bat day were biggies. Oh, those kid-sized wooden bats!!! You just had to slam it on the concrete driveway when you got home, knowing your hands would burn with stinging pain, shooting all the way up your arms, and into your teeth, seeing who could refrain from wincing. Kids are weird.
I still have my 1984 Tigers World Series Champion sweatshirt - not for nostalgic purposes, but because it's perfectly worn and comfy, and I can't give it up. Just like old memories.

Wonderful story, Gams. You always come through with the best ones...the ones that warm my heart all of the time and trigger a slight twinge of melancholy a little tiny bit of the time. It's always associated with those "old happy memories" from my past, so that's a good thing.
This particular story reminds me of my grandfather on Inez's side. The only "sport" he was passionate about was wrestling. Of course, back then it wasn't the circus it is now and he would fight you if you tried to tell him it wasn't real. Every Saturday, I would start out on his lap in front of the tv in his favorite recliner. I would barely make it to the first commercial before he had tossed me aside (usually to the couch) like one of his players in their "squared circle". He would get so mad and cuss at the tv--at "Classy Freddie Blassie", Gorilla Monsoon, Jerry "the King" Lawler, Bill Dundee--he would flinch and pop back in that recliner--swearing he wasn't going to watch another minute of "that sh!t". He didn't know I knew that he was reaching behind that recliner to sneak a swig of gin from one of the many bottles he had stashed all over the house, the barns, the shed, his truck....LOL.
What a wonderful memory. Thanks, Gams, for sharing and helping me to go back to what feels like yesterday for a few minutes.

Bs? Moi'?? Now Baby, behold the creature you have created. It's your fault...spoiling me rotton since practically the first moment we met on the board. It was a wonderful surprise (and a rare treat) for you to come home early to me. I enjoyed every moment we got to share. And the part where I fell asleep against the gentleness of your baby-soft curves....damn, woman! You make me feel "better than Swiss white chocolate on a brisk Autumn day" good; "better than accidentally channel-surfing onto a Xena marathon" good; "better than when I throw your towel in the dryer while you are in the shower" good". Are you getting the idea that I got a thing for you, yet? All those things I said to you yesterday while we were cuddling...you know I could never have said those words before in my life, right? Because I have never--ever-- experienced the spell that you have cast upon me, gurl. It could only be you, mybaby. (By the way, how many times do you guess that we "exhaled" yesterday in those three precious hours??)

Time to pull this one back up again. It seems we haven't been able to find many reasons to exhale lately--I know everyday is a blessing, but sometimes the world just seems soooo heavy when you seem to be carrying the weight of it on your shoulders. Well, everyone should've already read how my clutch left Mary and I stranded Saturday.... Greg did come by yesterday after picking up his son from school. He and Mary messed around with it for about two hours--didn't even wake me up. He knew exactly what was wrong and even tried to take the piece to his shop and weld it; no luck. He had to order the part from Nissan--$7. Now of course the only reason he could get the part from the dealer is because he knew someone. Great luck for me. It takes three days for the part, so Mary took me to work last night and I was just going to bum a ride home and then go rent a car for the next few days. Here's where it gets all goosepimpley. The girl that I was bumming a ride from told me I could ride with her for the next two days (she works prn). I explained how I couldn't because my supervisor is off and I have to do her job--which puts me there at least until 9 every morning. She said, "OK, plan #2. We have a extra truck that sits in the garage; you can drive it until yours is fixed. You don't need to be spending that money right here at X-mas when no one even drives that truck." I couldn't believe it. I didn't know what to say except "thank you". When we got to her house, her husband was in the garage--already had it warmed up, checked the oil and was airing up the tires with his new compressor he got for his birthday. When do these kinds of things happen anymore? I guess once in awhile they still do....

Got my truck back today!! Yippee!! It's like being on vacation--love going places; it's always good to be back in your own bed...so to speak....*sigh*.

Yay for you, Quetta! And cheers to the couple who let you borrow theirs while yours was being fixed, (and I bet the guy was just as thankful to you - you gave him a reason to use that new power tool he got for his birthday!)

His wife said the exact same thing when we were pulling in the driveway and she saw him piddling around.

That is way a way cool sun & moon...I need to use it somewhere. And this thread was waaaay down at the bottom; I always hate when it's below the "#@%!" thread. It's the precious weekend. Hallelujah and hail Mary, I thought it would never get here! I have two more hours before she gets home. I have the house to myself, I've had the usual "cocktail" of sorts for after work-time, my tummy is full, and it feels like I can breathe for the first time in about a month. A good friend told me this morning to relax. I think I'll go catnap under the electric blanket and wait for some company. I'll be back later--cross my heart! She has a new cd coming out.

OK, so the young lad pulled out the correct tool for the job. Imagine him having that particular part in his colorful mini van. I must've intimidated him with my "look". ** **See "Wanna Play With Me?" thread.
