A little early Christmas present, katman! Thanks MG, I promise to read around more in future, or at least make an effort to do so, but you know me.

Well, we didn't get all the snow they were predicting....only about an inch or two at most. By the time I started out for work last night, the "wet" had started to freeze & there were patches of black ice on the expressway. Luckily, I maintained & arrived safely. It is cold again today...17 or so with a wind chill of 4!! Brrrrr....cold enough to freeze boogers!! I will never be able to pass up that opportunity again....thanks, gammers! It is actually suppose to go all the way up to 30-something today & in the 40s by the first of the week! I'll be glad...it's hard to blow out those boogers when they're frozen!

We did get what was predicted: 8 inches of lake effect snow. It is absolutely gorgeous outside.
All around us; every county in the western part of the state; every school I've ever heard of; every school district in our county...is closed. Except ours.
They did though, give us a bit of a break: we are on a two hour delay.
LX is still sleeping; I'm gonna hate to see the disappointment on her face when she learns there is no "snow day". Pfft. Our kids never get snow days. Instead, in the spring, all those days reserved for closures due to snow are spent on "Fog Days". How can you go out and play in the fog? So gipped.

That is awlful, gams! I couldn't believe our schools were out...go figure, there's nothing even on the streets in the neighborhoods! They have a snow day & no snow to even play in. I don't think you could make a snowball out of what's in our front yard! And to top it off, they were up an hour ago! Now I love the girls, but I love my "me" time in the mornings when I get home. Just a girl & her dog. I can play the music loud, run around half-dressed (which I usually save for warmer days), leave the bathroom door open when I pee....pfft! Not today.....and such a long day they will have....too cold to go out & no one to entertain them except the boob tube!

Closing in on a bit of the holiday spirit tonight....started out the day by taking ilb for Chinese buffet...she thought I waited up all morning just to take her to get anti-freeze for her car, but it was just a clever ploy to get some substantial nourishment in her...probably the most she's eaten in the last 3 or 4 days.... Number one daughter delivered safely to her sleep-over & number two daughter tucked in safely with movies & basking in the revelry of having the space all to herself..... Three--yes, three different shades of egg nog for ilb & I to share while we watch one of my favorite holiday films--"National Lampoon's Christimas Vacation"... ....you ask, "why three different flavors of egg nog?".....well, you know how ilb loves her variety & I would do anything for her to try & alleviate the weight of some of the agony she has had to endure with her new "manager" this week...so, name your poison---brandy nog, whiskey nog, or rum nog?? Had to take a break to order a pizza & refill our glasses....ah, Papa John's pizza, to be exact because that's her favorite....thinking about making a trip out to the garage for some lights to put up outside when the movie is finished.... To be continued.....

Yippee!! We have lights! We have snowmen! Ilb & I spent most all of the afternoon hanging outside lights & decorating the porch & making the front of the house look all festive & gay...hehe! It wasn't 60 degrees like two weeks ago, but it wasn't 20 either, so it wasn't too terribly bad being out there & we had just enough sleet off & on to bring out the season....so,only my cheeks & of course my hand got really cold. Mary had on the ski pants that I paid $1 for at the Goodwill two years ago...(one of the best dollars I ever spent) so she really never got cold....could've been some more of the egg nog that accompained us on our mission that was also keeping her warm. I have every set of the holiday glasses that Arbys use to sell at Christmas like 20 years ago....the pretty clear ones with the gold rims & green holly....I love getting those out during the holidays... We only had to make one trip to the store & that was just because we decided we wanted to add a little something....everything we purchased was either 30 or 50% off & it added just the perfect finish...a new string of snowman stake lights, a five-foot wind catcher snowman that we modified by attaching a string of lights to, a lighted candycane sculpther to set off the other two single candycanes hanging on the shutters, a 16" battery-operated neon Christmans tree to share the bedroom with my snowmen, green shiney foil for the front door with a jingley set of red & silver bells & bows put together for the most festive doorknob hanger ever....oh, & one more extension cord! A quick stop at Popeye's Chicken & back home to finish up! Now here I sit in the dark except for the twinkling lights, the candles, & the soft glow of the computer screen.... the electric heater at my feet, my tummy's full & my head has a nice "mellow" flow through it as I listen to my favorite Christmas tunes.... mmmm....almost ready to work on the cards....

Beautiful post MG, makes one feel like they're right in the midst of it all. The two of you have certainly left no stone unturned in preparing everything just right for the festive season, I can imagine the house looks a picture, both inside and out.

Why thank you, Mr katman! We had a great time out there today together....I can't believe Mary went out there and stayed in the cold all afternoon....as bad as she hates the cold....just to help me find the spirit...she's one of a kind, that girl... It is beautiful out there....we have walked out three times since we came in just to look.... Well, katman she's calling me & it is very late for her to have to be there an hour earlier in the morning...hope to catch you in the morning perhaps...before you go to sleep.... peace & love, everyone.....

And so.....since I wasted so much space in rambling on about completely nothing, it seems like such a waste not to share that wealth of nothing and spread the nothingness wherever I go....
Huh? A double-duty holiday post:
The Trappings of Wrappings: It’s a Wrap. A song done by wrap-metal artists, Linkin Park, I think. No, I’m sure it wasn’t; I’m just making that up. Wrapped too tight from all this wrap, wrap, rapping on my chamber door. Poe, poe pitiful me.
Buried in the wrappings of my own making – no, I’m lying again; it’s store bought. Make my own paper? Pfft. Leave that to the Marthas of this world. Shudder to think there might be more than one. But I have wrapped my fingers to the bone.
Actually, I like to wrap, and have been wrapping, wrapping for the last couple of days. Nice sharply creased corners of pretty paper covering well thought-out gifts, (rolls eyes), all so it can be jammed in a box to arrive at its destination probably not nearly as pretty as it started out. This flurry of wrapping took place because everything I wrapped had to be mailed out of town.
My cats like to hover when I wrap. They annoy me, batting the paper, unrolling the roll of it across the floor. Same for the ribbon – that stuff you can make all curly by running a knife along the ribbed side. They bat at spool until I’ve got trails of white, gold, green, or red ribbon running through the room. Or they chew on it once I get it on the package and curled to my liking. Argh. I get a tiny bit of satisfaction though; a bit of revenge; when they get curious about a piece of discarded tape that I tossed on the table because it folded upon itself before I got it on the package. Tape stuck to a cat’s foot, and HA! They shouldn’t have been on the table in the first place. Just a few seconds of amusement watching the cat-foot-shake dance, before I relieve them by removing the offending tape. They annoy me, but not too much. I like having them around.
Ribbons; that curly stuff is the only bows or ribbon I do on these out-of-town packages, and more times that not, the gifts mailed out go without. Squished bows are not pretty at all, and so I leave the gifts unadorned. My Mom; she is a trip. The big box we get from her; lots of packages inside the big package, come without bows also. But she always puts a bag of bows on top, before she seals up the box, so each gift can be stuck with a bow as it’s pulled out of the box. A squished bow once it arrives.
I collect boxes at work in the fall to use to mail these gifts. We get in a lot of merchandize in the fall; gifty stuff for Christmas, and orders placed then so it’ll be there first thing in spring when we re-open. Lots and lots of boxes I bring home, different sizes, and I flatten them to be stored away until Christmas, when I pull them back out and find I’ve not a single box in the size I need.
I made a box. And was proud of it too. A long, slender gift required a long slender box. Nothing of the sort in my collection, and so I pieced a couple of boxes together to make a triangular-type tube thing. It was a work of art; held together with enough tape to make my cats have nightmares for a week. The tape was adorned with long strands of golden-brown hair that got in the way and ended up stuck in all that tape. I really put myself into this one. Took it to the post-office, wondering if it’d pass inspection. My post-office lady laughed, and said, “It looks complicated.” I beamed with pride.
I needed a box in a size I didn’t have last week, and decided to buy one at the post office. I went in, and found two that I thought might work; one being a bit bigger, but more shallow than the other. I took them up to the counter. My regular post-office lady was not there, and this new one – part-time for the season - told me that “No, you can not buy them both and bring back the one that doesn’t fit. We don’t refund, only exchange.” “Can’t I just apply the refunded amount to the cost of shipping on the box that I will be using? That is like an exchange, no?” “No.” I had to choose. Chose the one that didn’t work exactly. Too big, and I had to fill the extra space with plastic bags from the grocery and a couple of those air-pillow things I had lying about in my arsenal of mailing materials.
Receiving packages: I did a lot of my shopping on-line this year. I placed a rather large order the day after Thanksgiving to take advantage of a “HUGE AFTER-THANKSGIVING DAY SALE!!!!”, and another large order about a week later in which I got the same prices on things that took me forever to order during that HUGE SALE that lasted only until 12n that one day. These two orders have been arriving piece by piece – sometimes two boxes per day. Most often one item in each box - a big box, much too big for that one item and filled to the brim with those air-pillow things to take up all that unused item space. Air-pillows are much better than Styrofoam peanuts; less messy. Not as fun though as bubble-wrap which makes that wonderful snapping popping noise, but more useful. It takes up lots of space. Wish I would have had all these pillows when I jammed that box last week with all those plastic bags from the grocery. A lot less air-pillows it would take than grocery bags. I’ve got mountains of them now, and they are not even fun to pop.
And that’s a wrap. BP and I got everything off in the mail today, except one small envelope that I’ll drop by the post office in the morning.
Tomorrow’s post: My observations on the state of humanity as seen while standing in line at the post office, appropriately titled, “Going Postal”.

Marysgurl!!!! Didn't quite know where to stick this, but figured this might be a good spot. A HUGE request....
Can you please send me the http thingy for Metallica's "Carol of the Bells" for my musical loving friend, Siren. I listen here to that one quite frequently. Love it.
And if you can and will - the same for Grayson Capp's "Lorraine's Song". Just so the Lovely Okie will believe it when I tell her that there is actually a "countryish" type artist I like. Currently, she thinks I'm making it up. Go figure.
Oh - I guess I should say, I need it in a postable format.
Thanks ever so graciously.

I would love to gammers.....but.....you have to go to "Catch of the Day" to retrieve them.....because.....I posted a link for you three days ago over there that I want you to check out!
Actually, you know I don't mind sending you the url to anything you want, anytime....but all you have to do is right click on the link, go to the bottom of the pop-up box, right click on properties, copy & paste the whole url (the http thingy) & presto!...there you have it!
And.....you can invite Siren or any of your other buds to visit over here anytime....not trying to "steal" anyone away from their home turf, but I keep up with Siren's posting at Whoosh & would love having some of her wit & game-play around here once in a while.....just an open invitation to pass along.....
See you at COTD....
