Cool thing about finding the children's table, Q, and a neat idea to have it out on the veranda for a table of their own. Remember sitting at the "kid's table" at Thanksgiving and other family gatherings of the like? I always loved that; getting to sit and eat with my cousins separte from the adults.
HA! You'd lose the bet! The extra desk is as free and clear of clutter as the day we first moved it in.....uhm....just because I haven't gotten around to cluttering it up yet. The end table is always clear; I can't stand for it to be overflowing with stuff. The dining room table only holds a pretty floral tablecloth that I've been waiting to use for nearly a decade, and now can because it matches the new colors we painted the room, and a vase of flowers BP and I picked yesterday evening. And that is the problem....all this clear space elsewhere leaves my desk and the bookcase next to it, as the only place I pile my stuff, and the piles are stacked to nearly tipping-over heights.
But BOLL! Yes, I am "one of those kinds" - every available nook and cranny in "my space" is filled to capacity. And least I'm in the best of company.

I am exactly the same. I cannot tolerate clutter in that space. Not that I don't have lots of "stuff" on my end table--and mine is decent-sized with a fairly deep drawer. I have cool stuff there, however. Well, I started listing, but I think there may be a new thread in there somewhere. Stay tuned.
Mare has been much better lately about her end table, but her desktop has not seen the light of day in months! We should post pictures and give prizes for the most "this and that" computer areas. I love my desk. It's a contemporary corner unit that I paid $40 for at a yard sale. It's got great "stuff" as well, but as I'm sitting here looking at the last Halloween decoration I picked up at the flea market some time back, I'm thinking it needs attention desperately. I actually paid #2 the last two times it and my computer were cleaned, just to move stuff and dust. But it stays pretty tidy most of the time.

We found a Monday yard sale...on our weekend-day!! Just a block over from home. I explained to Mare when we were exiting the car how we would absolutely have to buy something just because it was there. We found several treasures. Glassware for the shop...a plastic organizer for the space under the cash register (it has a similar look to Mare's desktop )...some books (of course)...a huge metal flowerpot...and a older-type trimmer--waist-high--with the squeeze-handle and the blades resemble a duck's bill...too cool. All it needs is the blades sharpened! (and a little WD-40 maybe)

After Oktober Fest ended last Saturday, we strolled across the street from the park, and into a neat little shop that was having its End of Season sale, (a lot of the stores around here are getting ready to close for the winter).
The name of the store is The Elephant's Trunk, and it carries all sorts of stuff from India and Africa - pottery, antique furniture, jewelry and such. We were just browsing with no intention of buying anything, even with the sale.
Hubs and I admired a desk and hutch with all sorts of slots and little drawers - there had to be at least thirty of them; we even discovered a hidden compartment! Then he found something tucked in a corner I'd absolutely love to have - a table-top writing desk fashioned in the same way as the desk and hutch combo. It sits on a table, but has a rolltop. Once you open the rolltop, there is a fold-out desktop, and lots of tiny drawers and slots to put letters and whatnots in. At $600 even on 30 percent off clearance, it was too pricey for a whim purchase....or any other kind of purchase for that matter.
My friend and I were admiring jewelry and some little amulet-thingys, when I noticed Hubs at the counter paying for something. The writing desk!!! Pfft! In my dreams.
Caught up in the It's-on-sale-I-gotta-buy-something aura of the place, he bought a vase. A really ugly vase; the ugliest vase I've ever seen. That was only $10. It's a length of grape vine about two inches in diameter and approximately a foot long. Five holes are drilled into it, and individual vases that look like test-tubes fit into each hole.
Uhm, Hubs, why?
It was on sale.
So?
The lady in front of me bought one for her daughter.
Again....so?
It was only $10.00. Did I mention that?
Sigh. Now we have truly a white elephant direct from the Elephant's trunk; how appropriate.
While BP and I were downtown Sunday, I found some white candles shaped like gnarled fingers that bleed green blood when they're lit. I bought five, and they fit in the vase's holes perfectly. Hubs thought it looked cool; it makes a very creepy seasonal centerpiece. "I knew you'd find something to do with the vase", he said.
The candles were only $20.00. Did I mention that?

That's like those silly items that the kids used to sell as fundraisers. I bought two or three little Halloween decorations one year. My total was like $27 or some ridiculous amount. When my treasures were delivered in their lunchbag-size paper sack, I had the equivalent of what surely would have cost me less than $5 from any one of four dollar stores that are between the shop and home. Actually, I think one of the items was a stand-up candle in the shape of a hand. The fingers all burned red and bloody-like when lit...and the whole hand was melted down to a knub in about 1.5 hours. Those items always look so much bigger in the magazine.

I hate those fundraiser things. In the mad-dash out the door this morning, I realized BP's (latest) school fundraiser paperwork was due today....wrapping paper and gift bags; I quickly ordered three items, so she had at least something to turn in. I am not a school fundraiser Mom; if it were a graded project I'd received a failing grade for lack of effort. Which is not to say I don't buy anything; I'm a sucker for any kid coming to the door, selling something I don't need or want to raise money for schools, and extra curricular activities. But in a small town, with three elementaries, a middle school, and highschool, people get inundated with door-to-door fundraiser selling. I somehow feel guilty sort-of, contributing to the inundation by having two kids in separate schools selling separate items that no one needs or wants. And the portion of what they sell that actually goes to the school is so low, that I'd rather just make a monetary donation. I actually tried to do this last year when a highschool band member came to the door asking if I wanted to buy a coupon booklet for a year's worth of discounted pizza from Pizza Hut. I hate Pizza Hut pizza; all that grease upsets my stomach. He couldn't accept the donation though, without giving me a receipt for the coupon booklet, so I ended up with one anyway. I never used it; it hit the trash can fully intact when I found it four months after it expired. And in other trashy news.... www.grit.com/blogs/Good-Junque.aspx?blogid=876There are pictures and everything, (depending on what everything is - there are no Pizza Hut coupon booklets). And yes, this is a shameless plug, and a blatant attempt to get some audience participation.
