Wow, Sophie - sounds like quite a concert! And I must say you still look so divan, dahhh-ling, even after all that.
I gave the cd another listen this weekend, and yes, definitely guitar goddess.

Sof'!! Good to have you back in the house, even if the baggage is wearing on your soul. Music has a way of doing that sometimes. Mostly it has the opposite affect on me. Rejuvinating, revitalizing, and taking me far away to my happy place. I'm sure it has a lot to do with things that are weighing heavy on the soul, whether they be good or bad. Check out the catch. I think you'll like it.

Dang! I can't get the video to work - strobe-light motion without the light; broken sound - just bits and pieces. The guy in the striped shirt though - he and the smoke wafting in from the distance, I can see clearly.
Argh.

how cool that must have been!!
here in 2006 it's much like the late 60's early 70's all over again... unpopular war, fuel shortages, even more devastating damage the our environment and earth, governments lying to the people and doing whatever they want no matter how many it may hurt.
i think it's sad that today's youth aren't aware or just don't care about anything past their own front yard to do something like woodstock. i don't mean another woodstock, that's been done and done again. i mean come up with another way to b heard. something positive to go down in the history books.

I hit another Malone concert. Prepare yourselves....
experience of a lifetime.
Just getting to a MM concert is a trial for me-rearranging schedules, calling friends, the 3 hour drive alone is grueling, but, it is worth it.
MM took the stage. A crowd gathered for MM. She blasted away and, at the end, unplugged herself and wandered through the crowd strumming-a great ending. Then, she made a bee-line for the bathrooms. That happens to me after a concert, too. And may I say, that gal can strut. What a marvelous "don't touch me" strut. Every rocker should have one like that.
Malone then did another concert that night. I got that one, too!
The place was packed and I was at the back. I kneeled on my barstool and tried to take pics; I am not used to digital cameras. Those didn't work so, I made the supreme effort to part the waters and get to the front. I cannot do a song list cuz quite frankly, at some point in a MM concert time warps, and the music continuum distorts and I loose track of time and am unsure if I am in mass or energy-Andie's theory of relativity is this equation E=MS squared. Energy equals Malone plus Supro to the second power. It states that matter is equal to energy and when MM plays fast on the guitar, then it converts to an energy that fries your brain and penetrates your heart-Malone rays.
So, there I am standing my ground, being hair-whipped by the gal doing a limbo-like dance in front of me. Quite heathen, kinda....interesting. I am trying to take pictures when all melt-down time starts. "oh, no", I thought, "here we go again, Medicated Magdalene help me!" I thought about the full motorcycle helmet I brought with me for protection, but forgot it back on the bartop. it all became a blur at that point. And who ever could notate what she is playing, cuz she is combining songs, slowing some down, speeding others up to match, sticking in bits of other people's songs in there.
Lordy, things start coming apart at the seems during her concerts. Moanin's G-string broke, her plug popped, she started shooting off picks, not those sweet bridesmaid tosses where we in the crowd could yell "Jump ball" and all go for it. These were frisbee missiles. I think I saw her take the neck of a bottle of beer with one. I am thinking I should have brought my straps to tie me onto a table so I wouldn't get taken out. Next thing I see her up above the speakers daring us all-we all gave and stepped back about 5 feet-still within her range of being injured by gun-casing-like finger slides being spiked at the stage. Lordy, the abuse we MM fans must endure.

Wow! What a great story, Sof'. Kinda like some wild, Amazonian thing where you are painted blue and must howl at sister Moon until sister Sun chases her away?? I got both of your emails...finally! I love Green. Good stuff. And guess what--she will be in Louisville on Oct. 3! She is going to be at a little place called Rudyard Kipling--for $12. Now that seems like a deal we cannot pass up. Here's hoping for one of those extreme MM experiences....

Well, we were at one time planning a trip to Nobleville this past weekend for the Godsmack/Rob Zombie concert. We decided against it. Several issues came into play...mainly $$. Lawn tickets were reasonable--very reasonable. But you don't want to go to Nobleville without the VIP package--if only for the valet parking. The fields were you park are literally acres and acres away from the stages. Shuttles are provided, but waiting for one is like a half a day experience. Boo. Also, we are on vacation next week (I start mine Friday). Mary works every other Saturday and that meant she would've had to be off three Saturdays in a row; almost impossible. Another boo. I did however opt for these tickets instead for Oct 28. Pricey granted, but supposedly a once-in-a-lifetime experience..... I don't think Rob missed us this past Saturday.

Some serious concert envy going on here after reading these reports - the only concerts I've attended lately being the ones LX gives practicing her violin.

Man, her new CD rocks. Much harder than Stompin'. A bit more bluesy. Here is one more about her concert.
MG-I was actually going to go out and visit Phalon and we were going to do a Thelma and Louise (me). Ya never know. Oct 3? Is a what? Tues. That is tough. I would love to see her with you two gals, what a fun time. If you buy one of her CDs at the concert she may sign it for ya. Tell her Suprocallafragallistic gal sent you, she will know.
After my the first Malone concert I said what a great addition her percussionist was but, this time around I saw something I had missed before; they are a great stage team. For me, concert chit chat adds a warm personal touch. MM’s percussionist (from now on I shall call her Perc) was right on with the shaker but it was the comedic banter that had stepped it up quite a bit from the last show. It reminded me of the old duo comedic routines of the past. One played the straight woman and one the goofball. I won’t say whom was who (I sound like an owl). Malone would just kinda give Perc a look and we got the meaning. They were enjoying themselves; you may have a pal like this, your giggle buddy. It reminded me of the Smothers Bros or some of the SNL teams. Good stuff.
I am a so-so socializing kind of gal and so I always admire people who are able to spread love without fear and make all people feel special; they just come right up and hug you: Perc is that kind of gal.
As for Malone. Wow, up on stage she opens up all of her emotions for the world to see. It is a bit like a play in that way-taking you through life’s emotions. I believe people can have several homes. Places where they find love and joy. Moanin’ got this glowing ethereal look from the bottom of her soul two times when thinking of two of her homes. One home was when she was watching Perc sing a goofy song. The second was when she talked about visiting The South again-what a glow on that face-she looked like a little girl who just saw Santa on Christmas. Of course another Moanin’ home is up on stage. Well, dang, we love great Southern rock here but, she is a Southern woman and it was plain to see that from the tips of her soft-booted soul, her heart belongs to the South.
The show was exilerating but the time after it was really special and quite relaxing. I am so glad I made the effort to get down there. As a result, I felt like I had just hung out in an old Southern kitchen baking and laughing together and had headed home holding a warm loaf of cornbread; such nice gals. Thanks.

Well, I got the night off and Mary is off on that following Wednesday, so it looks like we will be getting up close and personal with that good ole gurl. The venue she is playing only seats about 100 people. How cool will that be!
I'm going to download as many of her tunes as possible before then. Sure wish you and Gams both could come. I know Tues. is an awlful night, tho.
Do you like Indigo Girls? Their new cd comes out today. I like them, but my boss is a Indigo Girls fanaticcc!!! She has seen them a dozen times.
OK, break is over and I must bolt.
Peace & luv!

Oh, I hope she plays Beyond the Mountain for ya. Very touching if she uses her old relic houndog Supro guitar (that is where the Suprocalifragiliticexpialadocious comes from).
Beyond the Mountain.
Try to move mountain, try to calm the sea, try to love somebody, who just don't love me.
Well, I feel like candle, trying to light up the sky, and the cold wind keep blowing and I'm loosing my mind.
I know somebody, gonna love me someday, and heartache will leave me, when love comes to stay.
But I feel like a boxer, eyes to swollen to see to get back to my corner, and give up this dream.
Aaaaaaaaaaahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa(long wailing duet with sad supro pup)aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayaaaaaah. OHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaa. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaohoooooooooooooooooooo. OH, noooooooo.
etc....

Well, we missed our show. I'll just say, "due to circumstances beyond our control" and leave it at that.
Oh well, I just bet the "Malone Mystique" would be richer that someday that the four of us can experience it together.
We'll have to make it a date.

Ooo, sorry you missed the concert, you guys; from Sophie's descriptions it sounds like it would have been a good one. But yes - one day, we'll all have to go together!

It is hunting season here; manly men, (and women), dressing up in camouflage and florescent orange to sit out in the cold and shoot Bambi. Not that I have anything against hunters, I don't - the responsible, law-abiding ones anyway. My brothers bow hunt, (never have I known them to actually shoot anything). My neighbor hunts, and proudly came by the other day, giving Hubs a venison roast.
Hubs doesn't hunt.
I'm thinking he might be suffering from a case of I-gotta-go-out-and-kill-something syndrome. Stalking the wild duo-cassette player. Yep, the static finally got to him. Every one on this board has at one time or another read, (or at least skimmed by), in one thread or another of the static woes we suffer; the radios, (along with portable phones), in my house do not seem to pick up reception without a bunch of static. Hubs' garage "boom-box" - and ancient cassette/radio thingy he had before we were married uttered its last breath of static yesterday.
He killed it with a B-B gun. He saved the cord though. Why? He can not say. Perhaps it was in a moment of remorse in which he pulled the plug.
Hubs doesn't shop much. Hubs would never, ever shop on "Black Friday". Is there anyone insane enough to fight the crowds and subject themselves to such torture.
He got his new garage radio today. I guess he was desperate.

Hmmm, Gams, I think he saved the cord to wrap around trees.
Okay, I went to another Malone concert and, man, she is bad. Remind me to post my experience here. Oh, and a few Malone video connectiong thingys. I feel so tech savy when I talk like that.
Tommorrow is X-mas eve.

We went to a concert Saturday at the local music theater. I like when they book acts that we can bring the kids to see - it allows us to say we actually went to a concert, and exposes the girls to different types of music.
It was Brian Vander Ark - he was the lead singer for Verve Pipe, who had a few platinum albums - but they never made it into my pop cultural hole; I've never heard of Verve Pipe, and don't know what type of music they played.
He is supposed to have toned-down from those days - Saturday night was mellow folksy-type rock. He played guitar - acoustic and electric and was accompanied by a bass and keyboard. The keyboard was the only down-side of the night; the amp was not working properly and there was a lot of feedback. It was over-halfway through until the problem was corrected. Great voice - sad, melancholy songs and I think LX is in love.
