I love sports! Grew up playing a wicked shortstop during softball season....went to college on a volleyball scholarship....quick little guard with great defensive skills on the court.....now all of this was 5 orthopedic & one hand surgeries ago (& about 20 years), so now i like to enjoy the high-impact-to-the-joints activities from the comfort of my living room! These are a few of my favs...... Women's Tennis.....i always wanted to play on the pro circuit...lots of power, not enough finnesse....martina & Chrissy were my heroes...lindsay davenport....steffi graf....sabatini....now the Williams' sisters, clijsters, still davenport....afraid my tennis career was destined for another lifetime....*sigh* College Hoops.... avid, rabid Arkansas Razorbacks fan! (attended college in Arkansas) Baseball....Atlanta Braves, but i usually only watch the world series since ilb doesn't like watching... Women's Pro Basketball...whoever is playing---no favorite team that's a start....i'll always stop my channel surf on track & field or swimming/diving, especially if it's international competitions...or college.... :grin2: i want everyone to bring their "sport's stories" here....something is always going on & we need to discuss it, like all "armchair cowboys" do.....maybe learn a new sport.... hmmm?? katmandu, more of your cats, please...we're in the finals, right?? name your game, buddy!

cool baby!!! great idea and wonderful title...
phalon, tell us about your living on the edge game... from what i've gathered the idea of the game is to find the roughest, toughest route and if u don't get seriously maimed or injured u win the game...till next time. did i get it right?

How are ya "quick little guard with great defensive skills", doing alright?
And good for Andre, who'd he beat?
Like tennis, but nowhere near as much as I once did for some reason. Years ago I'd go to the Australian open three or four days, sometimes more, over the fortnight. It was played at Kooyong, a very old club, fairly ordinary facilities, old wooden bench type seats that were none to comfortable, no shade whatsoever, and we'd sit in the blazing sun for hours on end and love every minute of it.
They were grass courts, the best surface by far in my opinion, and saw some epic matches, in the era of Chrissy Evatt and Martina Navratlova, Hana Mandlikova, Ivan Lendl, John McEnroe, Pat Cash, and the great Swedish pair, Mats Wilander and Stephen Edberg.
Then they built a state of the art new tennis center, huge center court arena with a retractable roof, two other show courts, rebound ace surface, great facilities, went several times in the first three or so years and then just stopped, not sure why, it just seemed to lack something, maybe the atmosphere of the old grass courts, maybe a lack of colourful or interesting characters playing the game, maybe just me getting older, don't really know.
Still follow it on tele, but miss those good old days, going back as far as John Newcombe beating Jimmy Conners in a classic final, and the darling of the Aussie crowds, Evonne Goolagong, beating a young, and chubby, Martina Navratalova.
Memories, memories.

Wall wan diont doo sooo wellll ..................... Sorry, I'll start again, couldn't see the keys through the tears. 120 minutes of the match, we led for about 110 of them, 30 seconds to go, with the last kick of the game, the opposition hit the lead and won by three points, think I'm gonna get drunk and stay that way for about, oh, six months or so. Well there's always next year, and the year after that, and ................. well you get my drift. Yep, seen most of them, including Billie Jean [ how did I forget to mention her, one of the greats ] and some truly memorable matches, got a lot of very fond memories of those days. And you're right, Martina is an amazing athlete alright, remember many of her epic clashes with Chrissy, the classic baseliner vs the classic serve and volleyer, great matches.
