Well, it's time for the annual chili cook-off at work tonight.....left a little early this morning so I could go by the store & gather all the secret ingredients....after all I am a former "Chili Queen" & also "Runner-up" from another year.....voted on entirely by my fellow employees, I might add.... I must go now & tend to my pots & pans.....of course, there will be an extra pot left at the Pt's just in case anyone would like a taste.....??

Had to relinquish my Chili Crown last night... Not a bad thing, tho....we actually had nine pots of chili in the running--the most we have ever had!! Three newbies claimed the prizes, so I am not disappointed. I have had an excellent run & step down with humble admiration for the new king... There is always next year!!!

LMAO. I see you didn't ask me to help prepare the meal. Are you sure there is nothing I can bring...like...uhm, popcorn perhaps? That, I can cook. Ok - I'm lying.
But I do make a damn fine gravy.

Oh I think I can handle that assignment without to many worries MG, and don't worry about the lady friends, I'm sure I can manage to dig someone up ........ literally if need be.
And I can vouch for Gams gravy as well, succulent I think is the word for it.

Actually, we have decided to postpone our holiday feast until Saturday. Mary has already left for work...(we met at the front door)....& I have to go back tonight.....stuck until 5am regardless of how early we finish due to covering the phones. At least it will be double time & a half since I don't have another day off this week! I like that part!

Now I'm jealous...when have you ever gobbled gams' gravey? Oh you'd be surprised MG, I get around, a gobble here, a nibble there, a taste somewhere else, busy busy busy. And Gams gravy really is delish, smooth as a babies bottom as well, which is surprising for someone who slaughters microwave popcorn. Not to worry though, I'll always find time for some of your chilli, food wraps, pumpkin ice cream, etc, etc.

Turkey & dressing, mashed potatoes & gravey, sweet potatoe cassorole, creamed spinach, corn pudding, sauteed veggies (cauliflower, broccoli, green onions, whole green beans, & mushrooms--all seasoned up nummy & fresh), cranberry relish, crescent rolls.....oh, & deviled eggs....& chess bars for dessert! My goodness, it was a feast! The girls made the dessert & Mary & I finished up dinner after she got home from work yesterday.... Truely we have much to be thankful for......left-overs!!!

I love soup season! Any soup will do, & while I do make a fabulous homemade chicken noodle as well as veggie ensemble, the plain ole can soup (full of sodium) will do just as nicely! Two of my favorites....cream of chicken or chicken & rice from Dollar General....the two-for-a-dollar ones. Yep....I can eat the chicken & rice right out of the can....cold as a well digger's butt! LOL! The soup de jour this morning.....Progresso split pea with bacon....not the one with ham because I don't like the big pieces of potato that are in it. In fact, I don't like the potatoes in any of my soup except my homemade veggie...they're always so hard....I hate that! Ok....my soup is getting cold.

Hot Wasabi Peas. My friend gave me a handful to try; he then stood back and watched as I popped them in my mouth, not knowing what they were, and laughed at the look on my face.
Dried green peas with a Japanese horseradish coating. Actually, after the initial shock they are quite good; downright addictive. I put some on my salad tonight for some added zing.

I love chocolate. This week's fix: Marble cake with chocolate icing - it's what BP requested for her birthday.
Sunday evening. Eight neighborhood kids sitting at the picnic table. Hubs with chocolate ice-cream in hand, ready to scoop. Me coming out the door with the cake. Cat between my feet. Slow motion as the platter dips to one side, then the other as I try to make the save. Marble cake with chocolate icing all over the porch.
Ah well. I could barely contain my laughter - in fact I didn't. My now five-year-old didn't even bat an eye - it was as if she's used to such things, (eye roll). We put the candles in her scoop of ice-cream.
But I did feel bad, and ran to the bakery yesterday evening for another marble cake with chocolate icing, (yesterday was her actual birthday, anyway). Getting out of the car when I got home, my neighbor comes by and says she's baked a marble cake with chocolate icing, sprinkles, and a big number "5" candle, (damn, I forgot candles this time; the others were buried in the wreckage), because she knew I was working and didn't have time to bake another cake, (like I baked the first. Pfft. Yeah, right). Keep the cake for your family, I told her, but give me the candle.
Forty dollars in two days at the bakery, and I've now seen enough of marble cake with chocolate icing to last a long, long time.

Back in a different time in my life, I was very much into the cake thing. Birthdays, weddings, graduations, promotions; you name it, I have decorated a cake for it. Lots of mess, lots of work...I actually started out in catering, but the cakes soon took over. Easier to order a cake than to host a party, I guess. Anyway, I have a mountain of stories similar to your acrobatics-on-the-porch tale, Gams. I was transporting a wedding cake one time in the hatchback of a car--wedding cakes are not put together until you're stacking them at their destination in case anyone is not hip to the rules of "caking". The father of the bride insisted on helping. Somehow he tripped coming out the door of the reception hall and couldn't quite catch his balance until his hand found its footing right smack in the middle of the bottom tier of the cake! I filled it in with icing--lots of icing. Then there was the time Dylan (my dog) somehow found his way in the back door when I had cakes covering the counters, the table, the top of the stove, cakes everywhere! I was in the shower when he got in. Luckily he only took the corner out of one of those cakes! I couldn't believe it. I guess it was a good thing that the first one he chose satisfied his sweet tooth. Anyway, too late to bake another one. All I could do was call, 'fess up, and apologize repeatedly. The lady told me to repair it the best I could and bring it on. She promised no one would get near that particular corner. Lots of icing once again. That cake was a freebie, needless to say. I worked with her and she continued to order cakes as long as I was doing them. I never asked what story she told at her party about the crippled cake. LOL...I could go on and on.
