"If I read a book and it makes my whole body so cold no fire can ever warm me, I know that is poetry." ~Emily Dickinson
My yard sale treasure find this weekend:
The Headless Horseman Rides Tonight--More Poems to Trouble Your Sleep by Jack Prelutsky with illustrations by Arnold Lobel
Just in time for Halloween!! I'll have some good ones picked out by then....Ooooooo!!

I can't wait!!! Love a good ghost story, even in the form of poetry.
And dang, Halloween is just around the corner, isn't it? You know, since Australia doesn't celebrate my favorite holiday, we are going to have to come up with a good costume for Katina ourselves.

Hhmmm....shall we start with the traditional-type costumes: vampire, Frankenstein, warlock? Oooo - how about a werewolf, since he seems so taken with howling at the moon?
Katina, how's your snarl? And just how hairy are you? <figuring out how many yards of fur to buy>

Well, if he's hairy enough, we can just save that cash to spend on other..."accessories"...

Oh yes - every well-dressed werewolf must be properly accessorized to be in vogue. Whaddaya have in mind?
And why is Katina conspicuously missing from this thread? I think he's avoiding it, hiding from the possibilities we come up with. I doubt it's because he trusts us to find something suitable.

A funny bunch of blighters you lot, I'll have to read around more thoroughly in future to see what else you're all up to. To answer all the questions, yes, I am feelin' a little afraid [ well more then just a little truth be told ] Don't know how good my snarl is, but I can manage a pretty good simper if that's any help, and wouldn't say I'm overly hirsute, so a few yards of fur are called for I'm afraid [ including a little on top more's the pity ] And please make sure there's some room around the girth, a little "middle age" spread don't ya know.

Nora Jones' Circle Trilogy...I'm on book one, "Morrigan's Cross". The third one is actually due out on Halloween, so I better get to reading. Great October choice and I love her style of writing. She writes with a lot of attitude and sarcastic wit.

Ooooh! Okay . . . . Her website does mention the third book is coming out on Oct. 31. A Books-A-Million search shows it for Nov. 2006 though.

Hmmm...I have one and two. One is blue, I think--it's in my backpack; number two is red; "Dance of the Gods". Do you read her? This is the first time for me. Two of my girls at work came in every night discussing these first two books, so I thought it worth a read. Thank you for the links.

Nopers. I've not read any of her works. Her third book is yellow.
You're very welcome.

The Soceress
In flowing dress the sorceress begins her evil toil. She stirs her vat of filth and fat and sees it seethe and boil.
Midst hellish smells she whispers spells and does a deadly dance, with words of death upon her breath she slips into a trance.
Higher, higher burns her fire, distant is her voice, and Hades' hole takes one more soul as demons there rejoice.
In flowing dress the soceress falls swooning to the floor-- her brew grows cold, her tale is told, her victim lives no more.
