Kids today are spoiled rotten. Most of them have everything handed to them and do absolutely nothing to earn it. When I was younger, there may not have been the fancy technology that's available today, yet we never lacked for entertainment, if we wanted a few bucks in spending money each week, we had to earn it, and when we turned 16, we had to go out and get jobs to earn that money, which made the cash we got more satisfying.

Well said, Bardling. We give the girls a nominal allowance each week for the daily chores of dishes, taking out trash, sweeping the floor, etc., but if they want any extra, they have to earn it by doing extra work...which they usually end up breaking a sweat for--but I always compensate them well. And if they fail to do the job as it should be done, they don't get the full amount that they would have. It's those little things that add up, especially when they're are two of them constantly asking to "borrow"...things like batteries, stamps, printer paper (for doodling and drawing--instead of just buying themselves a sketch pad), scotch tape (one of my biggest pet peeves)...lemme tell you, two teen aged girls can flat go through some batteries! And how do you borrow batteries? They certainly never give them back. Gams, it was nice to see you take a few extra moments in here this morning--I miss you. When you and Kat both stop posting at the same time, I have no one to play with...<huge bottom lip hanging down> However, I can certainly understand your dragging butt. That is a bunch of miles to walk in a workday! Here's wishing everyone a peaceful and reinvigorating weekend!

Just a brief hello and goodbye...I see you down there, C. Lloyd died about two hours ago, so I am "on the road" again in the morning. Well, I just wanted to let everyone know why I will be scarce for this week. Hold the fort down, my friends. I take all of you with me.

I've been so wanting to get in here, but haven't had much spare time lately. Deadline is looming on an article for that gardening magazine I write for, and having a hard time with it - when finished it ended up nearly twice the maximum word limit, (go figure). I've been working with the editor, trying to come up with ideas to reduce its length without losing content, and thankfully it seems we've found a solution: sidebars.
Yesterday was BP's birthday. After work, and after the girls and I all had appointments with the Dental Dominatrix, we had a few of the neighborhood kids over for cake and ice-cream. HA! Pppbbbllllltttt, Dominatrix! Sugar-coated teeth after they were just cleaned....and I didn't floss afterward, either. Take that!
BP's birthday will carry over into today - she wants me to take her and her friend to the beach. Nearly the last thing I want to do on my day off is fry in the hot sun, when I've had to work out in the sweltering heat of the last week. But it's all she asked for for her birthday, and I promised.
The heat - it's draining, and I've been falling into bed around 10 o'clock each night, totally whipped. The forecast looks like we might get some rain - which will probably miss us; it always does. Hopefully though, it'll bring down the temperatures to a comfortable breathing level.
Quetta - I'm terribly sorry to hear about Lloyd, as is Hubs. Keeping you and your Mom in our thoughts. I hope she is doing alright, and hope you get a chance to visit the library biddies while you're down there; it seems you might need it. Take care, Friend.
Enjoy the day, Sweet Taters.

A quick drive-by to let everyone know that I am OK and thank everyone for the well wishes. The services yesterday went off without a hitch and even the 100-degree sweltering Georgia heat was tempered for the short time that we were at the cemetery by a substantial breeze. It wasn't bad....let me rephrase that...it was bearable. Anyway, I have been on the phone this morning since 8 AM. Mostly all good news for Inez. Seems she will only be responsible for one of Lloyd's bills because she signed as a guarantor (is that right?). Her SSI will increase to his amount, their only credit card bill has gone away and she will be eligible for some VA benefits--not as much as he was getting, of course, but she was expecting nothing. The biggest problem now is securing death and divorce decrees from her previous marriages...<huge eye roll>. They were married for 27 years, but now she has to prove that previous husbands are either dead or that she isn't a bigamist. Sheesh. I must bolt. I have papers to fill out and return before 5. Thanks for the fix, my friends. It helps knowing that you are here. I may steal another minute before Friday. Smooches!

Does thing mean you're driving home today? If so, have a safe trip, Q.
A nice cool down yesterday, and today it's supposed to be even cooler - a high of seventy-two degrees. It's still cool out now - it dipped into the fifties last night. Had to shun the shorts, and dig the jeans back out this morning! (which is why I'm running late - or at least is the excuse I'm using this morning.)
Gotta run - enjoy the day, and hope everyone has a good weekend.

Hello my friends. I am home. Got in yesterday around 11 AM. Not sure how long before I have to return, but for today, I am home. Thank the Gods. The high temp for today here is 85; it's 98 at Inez's. Lots of catching up to do--here, as well as around the house. We are off to run some errands for now. Love ya!

Glad to see you home, Quetta!
I'll be kinda scarce around here this week - my Mom and youngest brother are coming in tomorrow for most of the week. Looking forward to their visit; the last we got together was at Christmas. Then Friday, we are off on a camping trip for the weekend.
As much as I want rain, I do not want it to rain while I'm sleeping in a tent. Wanna take bets? Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll rain here, and be a gorgeous weekend further north. I feel lucky.
When I get back, Q, I need to post in that White Elephant thread. Ooooo, I'm a 'stuff' person too. Remember that fetish thread over at Whoosh? I love my "stuff"!
'Night, Sweet Taters.

Glad to see you made it in for a quickie, C. You know I'll take it anyway I can get it... I was thinking earlier that things have almost come to a standstill around here and flashes of closing the place down ran momentarily before my eyes. I've heard that a "lady always knows when to leave". But then I think that even if I am the only one still hanging out and posting--it serves as a kind of therapy for me. So...I guess I'll keep the home fires buring for a few minutes longer. I missed a bunch last week...like BP's birthday. What are those dates for both of them? I like to remember birthdays--especially for ones their ages. Even if it's nothing but a card, it's always fun to get stuff in the mail. And have fun with the "kin" this week. I almost had a little "too" much of my brother this week. (Damn, I wish everyone could be as perfect as me all the time. <huge eye roll> ) And camping--another joyous adventure! It is beginning to look like our surfing vacation is not to be this summer--unless the couple that keeps the girls doesn't mind doing it once school starts...which is the first week of August! Hard to believe. We never used to return to school until after Labor Day. I promised Inez that I would return in four to six weeks to help her with some of her decisions...decisions about things that she wasn't ready to deal with just yet. It would be nice if we could get away this week as the girls are leaving Thursday for a church convention out of town. They will be gone for four days! Mary has to work Saturday and is already taking off Wednesday because we are going to see The Lion King play Tuesday night. I have never even seen the movie. Guess we need to do that tomorrow night... OK, time to run for now. Hope everyone has a happy Monday! Smooches!

Nowhere else serves up a good cup of coffee with atmosphere as this place does.
Enjoy the day.

I second those sentiments Gams, no way are we gonna let you close this place down champ, sheesh where am I gonna hang out if you do. Has been quiet recently I know, perhaps if the resident Aussie pulled his socks up and contributed a bit more it would help somewhat, I do apologise for my tardiness. Anyway, great to see you back safe and sound, hope you and Mary have a great time tomorrow? night.

[glow=red,2,300]Happy Day Off in the Middle of the Week![/glow] Hope everyone is enjoying the day! Mary is actually off today--can you believe it?! She requested since we had the play last night. And speaking of the play...by the gods! If you ever get the chance to see The Lion King, make sure you do! It was amazing from the very first. The costumes, the sets and props, the singing--everything was awe-inspiring. Remember the Cirque de Soliel show we saw last year...well, this made that look like a middle school production. Today we have been to the health food store and our favorite close-out store. (Anyone else have a Big Lots? I love that store.) And we finally found a new rug to replace the mat in front of the front door. I had bought three of those little $1 throwies and Mary absolutely hates them because they never stay down (a valid point)...anyway, I had #2 sew those three together last night and I stuck them in the hallway as a runner (I figure Mare will still end up trashing them when I'm not looking). Anyway, the girls just walked in, so I need to bolt for a bit. Smooches and Happy 4th!

Glad to hear the show was so great, I've seen it advertised on tele and the costumes looked fantastic.
Guess you'll be a bit scarce for a while what with Mary home, so I'll just wish all a very happy Independence Day before I grab myself some munchies from the fridge and tip-toe out the door.
