I meant to comment on this before. The steamer that we ( "I"...pfft) have is a lot of trouble to use and clean up. You need to use distilled water and emptying and cleaning is a little time-consuming; not something that you would continue to do on a regular basis, I'm pretty sure . I don't even use that one anymore. The thing we used at the cafe was just a steam pot (the black metal old-time looking one) with the colander inside with about 1 1/2 inches of water in the bottom. Actually Mary got to where she didn't even use the colander...and everyone said that her steamed veggies were the best-tasting and most perfectly-steamed veggies they had ever eaten. The trick is not to oversteam. She timed it everytime and dropped in the veggies at different times because everything doesn't take the same amount of time...BUT, the longest that any veggie ever steamed in her pot was eight minutes. If you can eat canned peas, I'm thinking you will eat your steamed veggies even if they are all thrown in for the entire eight minutes! Lol. Personally, I prefer my deep skillet and enough 100% PURE VIRGIN olive oil to cover the bottom good. You never even need to wash the skillet; just wipe it out with a paper towel and put it back in the oven. OK, that's all for now. I need to get ready to leave for scooping! More to follow. Oh, I will add. Frozen is so much better for you than canned and as Kat and Gams pointed out, easier than using the can opener and then you have all those empty cans to deal with and you have to take the trash out more often...I'm telling you, it's just easier, no doubt about it! (Lots of bad grammar there, I realize )

I was telling Mom I might have to break down and get a steamer and she got out this colander type, fold-up thingy you put veggies in and drop in a pot of water. The water is below the colander thingy, so the veggies aren't boiled. So I'll see if I can find one like it next time I go grocery shopping. I'll probably go next week, or the week after.
If ya want to add to my grocery list, post it here and I'll see about making those changes I keep putting off.
Frozen Veggies:
Sweet/green peas Carrots Sweet/whole kernel corn
(Those are what I've always gotten in the past.)
I've seen packages of 1 green, 1 yellow, & 1 red pepper combos and have been meaning to get one and adding an onion & chicken strips to it ... and then stir frying it and wrapping it in a tortilla, but ... yeah, too lazy.
Shoot, I've got bottles of stir-fry sauce, soy sauce, & teriyaki sauce that have yet to be opened and used. I even bought a stir-fry cookbook that I look at once in a while but that's all. And I got a cookbook on wraps. Yeah. I look, and think about doing something different, but never do. Me bad.
Maybe this is my wakeup call and you guys are kicking me into action.
