Packages in the mail!! Yippee!! The one pair of jeans fits Mary like they were made for her and I think she wore the Harley shirt from the time it came out of the box, slept in it that night and wore it most of the day Saturday until she got in the shower. It also is a perfect fit. The book is great. It will come in handy for many things along with being a great place to keep my beloved sticker collection--which undoubtedly could be termed a fetish. (I have hundreds, you know; ones for any and every occasion.)

An oh-so-good time skiing this morning before the sun was completely up, and I had the trail nearly to myself. I've been feeling a bit sluggish on the things lately; unable to get the rhythm back after taking a few weeks off after the whole ear-infection thing. Earlier this week though, coming up behind a jogger - flaming red curls, and it could only be my Marathong Friend. We continued on together, falling into pace with one another for four miles. We've both gotten better in our respective sports over the last year; she's gotten faster, and I've learned to pace myself, and it was fun to have someone to talk with the entire way.
The next morning it was a solitary ski for me - alone except for a biker who stopped me to talk, interested about those "things I had on my feet". The biker was a skier, and could instantly tell the difference between skiing on snow, as opposed to wheels. We talked balance, the absence of "kick and glide", abs and cardio work-outs, and as we did, I think both our hearts got a work-out when a blue heron flew directly over-head, nearly missing us by what seemed like inches before landing on the river. After we recovered, we both marveled at its beauty before we headed off in different directions. But not before she wrote down the name of the place I ordered my roller-skis from - maybe we'll meet on the trail again, both of us with " those things on our feet."

Yeah for your peace of mind this morning, Gams! And I'm glad you are feeling healthy enough again to get back to one of the things that gives that to you. You mean you are actually able to talk when you are in that mode?? Great lungs!

A coworker sent this to me this morning. It was a very bad night at work and I was stressssss-ing! I get emails all night long that I need to read right then. I saw hers pop up and it's usually not good news. I rolled when I read this....
A blonde calls her boyfriend and says, "Please come over here and help me. I have a killer jigsaw puzzle, and I can't figure out how to get it started." Her boyfriend asks, "What is it supposed to be when it's finished?" The blonde says, "According to the picture on the box, it's a tiger." Her boyfriend decides to go over and help with the puzzle. She lets him in and shows him where she has the puzzle spread all over the table. He studies the pieces for a moment, then looks at the box, then turns to her and says, "First of all, no matter what we do, we're not going to be able to assemble these pieces into anything resembling a tiger." He takes her hand and says, "Second, I want you to relax. Let's have a nice cup of tea, and then ..." He sighed......... "We'll put all the Frosted Flakes back in the box together......."
Sounds kinda corny now---get it, corn flakes?--but last night the timing was priceless.
Shoo-wee. Me tired girl; I gotta go lie down and stretch out these weary bones.
Peace and luv everyone and happy Friday.

What a great weekend. Nothing spectacular; nothing extraordinary. Just nice.
Woke up Saturday to a gorgeous morning; warm and sunny after a week of cold and wet. Warm enough for shorts; I've been putting off switching the wardrobe for warmer clothes, dreading putting away the summer stuff.
I remembered to shave - even got my ankles good, avoiding that ring of fringe that sometimes appears around my sock-line when I'm in a hurry.
The drive to work was perfect. Sun and fog - a great combination. Everything was covered in heavy dew and sparkled, even in the diffused sunlight. Music all the way - they play the best mixes on Saturday mornings...no interruptions with talk or commercials. Even the static stayed away.
A good day at work: busy, but not swamped; fun chatty customers. And my boss made me brownies.
I avoided walking into any spider webs the entire day.
The Wolverines beat Notre Dame - at Notre Dame. A late game, and I even got to see part of it; a rare occurrence with me working every Saturday during college football season.
Dinner and cake. Lots of candles. Very nice.
I got a postcard from my Xena-Sista, who's been in Italy with her hubs for the better part of a month. Very timely. Very her - I'd have been embarrassed to send it, both front and back. I'd have been embarrassed to receive it from the postman; my face would have turned pink, I think. Luckily, I was at work and Hubs had the honors. She is a trip; I miss having her around.
Another pretty day today. Early morning skiing on the trail - my favorite time. Then we went apple picking; a family fall ritual started when I was a little kid. Another of my favorite things - the sweet, crisp scent of fresh apples.
Only one thing less than nice - I bent my now covered in two-ply toilet tissue and Super Glue protective coated fingernail back at work, ripping it from the nail-bed. Again. But even that ahh-ful incident was ahhh-inspiring. I uttered, "Ahhh...sh!t!"

That's a wonderful "say ahhhh" post, Gams. All except the last paragraph; oooouuuccchhh! It was a beautiful weekend here, as well. Mine was much more laid back than yours. Trying to save a little $ before vacation next week...and Mary worked Saturday....and the girls were gone all day yesterday with a church outing...very easy to be lazy. Oh! And my beloved Razorbacks opened league play with a win on the gridiron. Go Hogs! LOL, one got me good Saturday. I was tooling up the driveway to the trash cans and bam! I think it wrapped completely around me, all across my face and arms....thank the Gods Mary was there to unwrap me! (any excuse to start using my Halloween smileys...hehe)

Yesterday, my friend and I mounted Baldhead - or more affectionately known as "Baldy". It was not a particularly grueling mount; not too big. Though both of us got a bit out of breath at times, and definitely felt it in our thighs, it was exhilarating. It is a giant sand dune, forested - whether intentionally or naturally, I'm not sure, but it keeps the dune from moving inland towards the town and river. Interestingly, there is also a dune, unforested, named Mount Baldy in Indiana, I think, that moves approximately five feet per year. "Our" Mount Baldy has stairs on one side. Two hundred and eighty two very steep wooden stairs. The view from the top is magnificent. It was very cloudy though - threatening rain - and shoot, the pictures were too dark. Dune on the other. No stairs; just sand. Pure sand. Sand is much harder to climb than stairs. One hundred and fiftyish feet of sand. Whew, it was a trek. We made it to the top. Looking down did wonders for my fear of heights. At the bottom of the dune, is of course, the Lake. See in the distance the blue sky. See where we are standing, the black clouds hanging over our heads. The rain held off just long enough for us to make it back up the dune, and nearly down the stairs; it started with only about ten steps left to go. We've been trying to to this for about six months, but conflicting schedules kept us from making it. Finally. The scenery and company - it was worth the wait.

Look at those postcard pics!! Beautiful, Gams. And what a great way to share quality time with a good friend. Is this our Mount Baldy or your Mount Baldy?? Spectacular, regardless....

That is your Mount Baldy, which actually is way, way closer to me than it is to you. It's just over the Michigan/Indiana state line a little over an hour from here. This is ours, (I couldn't find any pictures of the dune side). www.saugatuckdouglas.com/baldhead.htmlIt was me that said this? Boy, did I underestimate. The dune is six hundred feet tall! At least now I know I had a damn good reason for that slow burn in my thighs.

Leuconoe, don't ask--it's forbidden to know--
what end the gods will give me or you. Don't play with Babylonian
fortune-telling either. Better just deal with whatever comes your way.
Whether you'll see several more winters or whether the last one
Juppiter gives you is the one even now pelting the rocks on the shore with the waves
of the Tyrrhenian sea--be smart, drink your wine. Scale back your long hopes
to a short period. Even as we speak, envious time
is running away from us. Seize the day (Carpe diem), and trust as little as possible in
the future.Have a wonderful time this weekend, Gams! I am envious for I must work Saturday night to make up for being off Tuesday. Boo. Travel south....just one state; it is absolutely the most beautiful Autumn day here. The sun is bright and the wind is cool, the leaves are all starting to change and fall, Halloween decor is going up in every yard; by the gods, it takes my breath away! I really hate working in the fall. Next year we take a week (I might take two) in October. September is good because of the birthday thingy, but still too early for all the pretty colors. Have a great time and cover those ears and pigtails, you and the girls! Oh, and how about a picture or two. We can host them at one of three places anytime you want to put one or some up. Peace and love!

Quetta - the quote and poem hit home; I know you knew it would. Thank you.
A beautiful autumn day here too - brisk and sunny and full of color.
Gotta get up fairly early tomorrow - a self-imposed thing; I want to go skiing before we leave. It's been since early this past week that I've been, and love it so much this time of year; it's especially beautiful. Taking your latest mix with, of course; I'm enjoying the heck out of it.
Catch you all later this weekend. Enjoy.

Ah....back home from our short little trip. It was a good time for us all. Battle Creek - not a hot-spot in the list of vacation destinations; it couldn't even be considered a vacation desitination at all.
But a one and a half hour drive from home, a free night's stay in a nice hotel, Kellogg's Cereal City, an aboretum with a great Children's Garden, and one of the nicest zoos I've been to, all taken in during a weekend of fabulous fall weather, and nothing could have been better.
Tomorrow - the kids are back in school, but Hubs and I are both off work. A day of play just the two of us....a whole day; I don't remember when the last time that happened. Looking forward to it. A lot.

Glad you enjoyed your weekend getaway, Gams; a little of that goes a long way in healing the body and the soul. And to continue on today with Hubs home and the girls not! I absolutely know what a treasure this day is! Yeah for you both.
