Joxie started a similiar thread at the other place, and since I usually end up watching more bad than good, suckered into them by pretty packaging, or a cast of stars, who, once I've watched the movie, I can't believe actually agreed to "star" in them, I thought I'd start a similiar thread here.
Last night's I Can't Believe I Watched the Whole Thing movie was Quentin Tarantino's "Death Proof", one of the most bizarre movies I've sat through to the end in a long time.
Kurt Russell stars as "Stuntman Mike", a washed-up, has-been stuntman psycho killer.
Very, very strange, and once making it through the extremely slow first thirty minutes, the movie takes an unexpected, but since it's Tarantino it's expected turn, and the rest of the movie is like watching a car wreck. <snicker>
Gruesomely disturbing, but you can't look away.
There is a Xena link in this move: Stuntwoman, Zoe Bell, who plays herself in "Death Proof", was a stuntwoman for Lucy Lawless in Xena.

I am a longtime KR fan, and I usually can take Quintin in small doses, but I thought this movie looked very bad in the previews. Think this is one I'll pass on.
We tried to watch Transformers last night. It was on for the entire movie (which seemed to last three days instead of three hours) and I think Mare actually watched the whole thing. I couldn't stand the boredom and got up about a half hour from the end. Now usually if I watch a movie that long, I will stick it out. I just couldn't do it.
"Thumbs down" for Transformers imo.

I watched one-in-a-series of what I'm assuming, based on the sequel we watched last night, can only be a series of really bad movies: Resident Evil - Extinction. Ten minutes into it - maybe five, because the first five were just as bad as the second - Hubs said, "You know, this is really stupid". "Yeah, it is." But yet we watched the whole thing, and I still can't figure out why.

Watched "The Guardian" the other night, about the U.S. Coast Guard's search and rescue unit, with Kevin Costner as the grumpy but wise older instructor and Ashton Kutcher as the brash, hot shot new recruit.
If I had to sum it up in one word it would be "cliched" good grief they trotted out practically every one in the book. If I was to use a second word it would be "subtlety" something this film could have used a bit of, NOT recommended.
4/10.

Mr. Woodcock. We watched it at the shop today. Billy Bob Thornton, Susan Sarandon, the guy from the American Pie movies...uhmmm... this guy. I don't think this is one any of them will want to put at the top of their resumes. I'll go with Kat's call on his last "not watch"...4/10. However, this flic with him is one of my favs. It also stars this guy... ...my favorite Scorpion King and ex-pro wrestler, Duane "The Rock" Johnson. Handsome guy (I like nice arms) and not a bad actor. Another familiar name from The Rundown...Christopher Walken (in one of his better films of late). This one scores a 9/10.

Ever walk into a movie rental store and see a whole wall of the same movie, with every one of them gone. You gotta think, even if you've never heard of the movie, "gee, this must be a good one if so many people are renting it."
I happened upon such a wall yesterday, and what luck! An employee came by and put one returned movie back on the wall full of empty places just as I was standing in front of it, wondering what I was missing.
I read the cover - a horror flick. "Hhhmmm", I asked the employee skeptically, "any good?" "I have't seen it", she said, "but I hear it's one not to watch alone."
Thirty Days of Nights. Don't watch it alone because you may fall asleep unless someone is there to nudge you back awake. Small Alaska town is overrun by a pack of vampires speaking a very odd grunting language during a month of sunless days.
Even worse than sitting through the entire movie - which we did - was realizing when it was done that it wasn't 1:30 in the morning, but because we forgot to change the clocks, it was actually 2:30 in the morning. Seems we spent way more time watching this movie then we should have.

Thanks for the heads up. I picked it up the other day and ended up putting it back--thought it would probably be too gory. I don't mind a good horror flic with a "subtle" amount of gore, such as Land of the Dead or Army of Darkness...and who doesn't feel Ms. Weaver should get her gore props for any of the Alien series, but some of them are just waaay too much hack and slash...no room for a plot. That being said, we watched a great creepy one the other day... 1408. John Cusak...brief role for Samuel L. Jackson...not a bad one. Mare doesn't really do scary movies and she loved it. I think "intense" was her exact wording. I give it a 8 out of 10 on the horromidor.

Yeah - that's how "Thirty Days of Nights" was; just waaay too much...uhm...bite and gnaw. It could have been much better - and this was pointed out to me - a month long reign of vampires during a time of year when there is no relief that the daylight normally brings is a good premise for a movie. I missed that while watching....probably because I was trying to figure out why vampires would speak in a series of clicks and grunts with a Russian accent. (eye-roll) That was the most fascinating part of the movie for me - and I spent a whole two minutes fascinated by it.
Oh! Definitely creepy. It was a hang on to Hubs movie....and when I wasn't hanging on, it was because my hands were covering my eyes, only allowing a tiny slit between my fingers to peek through.
Another creepy one we watched last night was "The Number 23". It wasn't a horror movie, but a physiological thriller. Don't pay attention to the name of the lead actor; Jim Carey starred, but not the type of Jim Carey acting I've grown to know and hate. Here he is just a regular guy.....uhm....sort of. His wife gives him a book found in a used book store for his birthday, and he becomes convinced the book was written about him....the similarities between his life, and the character in the book are very uncanny. Then the character commits a murder....and things then get a bit intense for Walt, (Carey), and his family as he tries to figure out what the hell to do.
A few holes, an maybe unbelievable in parts, (the wife and son are waaay too 'ok, dear, I believe you - let's do it'), but all in all this was the best suspense movie I've seen in a while. A note....hhhmmm....if I were one to have an obsessive/compulsive personality or had a thing for numbers, I might want to stay away from this movie.

May I post here? One movie that I CAN'T believe that I watched entirely was: "THE GRINCH" (yes, Jim Carrey again)... OMFG!!! I don't know exactly HOW I manage to stay in the cinema (yes, I went to the cinema!!)... It's unbelievable... I was sooo mad for lost my time and money like that!! Obviously there are a few more to mentioned, but now I watch very well what I'm going to see lol. Another insufferable film was "BECOMING JANE" (Jane Austen)... At least this one was free on the TV Cable... There you go... (I will think a few more for tomorrow )

I kinda liked The Grinch...not my favorite Jim Carrey movie, but it was OK. (I like the original cartoon the best!) I just saw Yes Man the other night...I hated that. Bryan has been trying to get me to watch it ever since it came out, because I'm always telling him "no" to everything the past 11 months. Maybe he built it up too much, but I had a difficult time watching the whole thing.
My favorite JC movie is probably Bruce Almighty.

Tell Miriam she has good taste Ana, although to be honest I should watch the whole thing before commenting I guess.
Saw the first 20/30 minutes and couldn't believe how bad/cliched it was, couldn't make up my mind if it was supposed to be a drama or slapstick comedy. Went onto the computer after that and could hear it in the next room [ that was bad enough ] kept popping in to see if it got any better .... IT DIDN'T.
Nicole and Hugh, hang your heads in shame for getting involved with this turkey.

Yeah, I love period films - the costumes, the scenery. Maybe I liked it so much because I knew going in that it was only very loosely based on facts from Jane's life and just a couple of letters she wrote her sister; I didn't look at the movie as a biography but just as a love story. And I'm a sucker for a love story with a sappy ending.
Can't think off the top of my head what is the worst movie I've seen this year - it'd probably be that one we rented that was an apocalypse/Greek god resurrection/martial arts in the desert combo with all Chinese actors, and a porn movie-like soundtrack. I can't remember the title, we only watched the first five minutes of it, and I have not lived it down as the worst movie pick ever.
