Help is requested, ILB. Quetta said you might be able to help me out of my latest Windows XP automatic update hell.
Everything has been reconfigured; everything moved to some place is was not before.
Lots of pop-ups; I hate those. I especially can not stand working in a Word Document, and having to see this little annoying paper-clip with big googly eyes staring at me, asking if I need help with what I'm doing. "No, dammit! I know what I'm doing, (sort of), and the only help I want is in getting rid of you. Now, stop raising your eyebrows at me like that. Go away." He only listens when I close my documents, and then he slinks off like some snake in the grass.
IncrediMail changed too. I'm not sure if it had anything to do with the update, but it happened at the same time. The Butler does not Ring Twice. Actually, he rings no more, and I never know I have mail until I open the box. And that's when Butler chooses to walk on the screen. Also, I get a pop-up that makes me "ok" every piece of outgoing mail I send by having me fill out names, addresses, number of children, and next of kin. Argh. It's getting tough to even respond to the simplest e-mail anymore.
Any advice?
Oh - and I will be posting this to the other site. LMAO. I understand Joxie is feeling a bit nostalgic about the days when I asked questions such as "how do I turn on my computer", and needs a fix. BOLL, Joxie. You don't know what you've just done to yourself.

Open Word and then click on Help & Hide the Office Assistant.
I don't have IncrediMaill, so I can't help with that.
It never fails when I mention something hasn't happened in a while it pops up out of the blue.

Thanks Joxie. Googling Paperclip shall be banished again. Pfft to him.
Other "helpful" pop-ups - how come they keep coming back, even when I check the box that says "don't show me this again"?

I've no idea, but I'm sure there's another way to shut them off.... hang on, let me see if I can find it.

Try Tools -- Options... -- View -- Is there a checkmark next to Startup Task Pane? If so remove it and click Ok to see if that helps. I'll keep looking.

Thanks Joxie. I'll try it; I love clicking on things to see what happens.

You're welcome . . . .
You might also try removing the checkmark next to ScreenTips. It's at the bottom of the first roll where Startup Task Pane is at the top.

Does anyone here use IncrediMail? ILB do you still have it?
Hope so; I've got a question about stored e-mail addresses. I'm not talking about those in the address book - hell, I never even use my address book, and have no clue who's addresses are in there; I can't ever remember adding any one since I first got the account years ago. I use instead the list that pops up when you type the first letter of person's address to whom I am sending something.
For example - if I'm sending something to Quetta, in the "TO" field, I type Q and her name pops up...along with anyone else I've ever sent an e-mail to that starts with the letter "Q".
And "anyone else" can be scores of people. Heck, even those cheesey e-mails that pop up in my Junk Mail box that I bounce back to sender, end up in those lists. I've got gobs and gobs of e-mail addresses that I have no clue to who they belong to, in addition to people I write who've changed addresses - their old address still shows up in those lists.
Incredimail's memory in incredible. How the heck to I erase it and get rid of those names I don't use?

Hey thanks, Joxie!
But damn, damn, damn...it sounds like quite a task. It seems there is no way to remove individual addresses from that auto-remembrance file; they must be removed in a mass clean-sweep. I do love that auto-address remembrance thing, because usually I'm too lazy to take the one minute it takes to add a name to my address book....but guess I'll have to break down and do it if I want to get rid of all the junk.

Jox, can you tell me why sometimes a whole site won't fit on my screen? I know the YT thingys stretch it where it won't fit, but Whoosh seems to always fit on my screen. Gam's blog site doesn't. Photobucket doesn't. And then every site I go to when I'm on Bryan's computers at the shop always fit. Is it the settings on my computer?

OK, just as I say that Whoosh always fits, I'm there, and I have to slide over to read the end of each line.

I see you. I'm sitting here trying to figure out the answer to my question. So far, no luck. I was checking out your links in the Catch... thread and half of those don't fit my monitor.

More and more websites are getting wider than they used to be. I believe you have to resize the screen resolution to a larger size. Mine is on: 800x600 pixels. And a lot of the websites now need for it to be set higher than that, such as: 1024x768 pixels. If you want to play with it and get the whole site on the screen:- right click on the display screen
- click on "properties"
- click on the "Settings" tab
- Slide the knob in the "screen resolution" section up a notch
- Click "apply"
- Open a browser and go to a website to see if it fits the screen
- If not, slide the knob up again & apply
Personally, I'd rather have to scroll from side to side, so I leave mine as is.
